Ludwigia 'Atlantis' is a striking ornamental freshwater stem plant known for its variegated green, cream, pink and red foliage. Its unusual leaf pattern makes it an excellent feature plant for aquascapes, providing colour and contrast against traditional green stem plants.
It develops upright stems with attractive broad leaves and can become increasingly colourful under strong aquarium lighting. Regular trimming encourages branching and helps create a fuller, bushier appearance.
For the best growth and colouration, provide good lighting, consistent CO₂ and balanced macro and micronutrients. It can be more demanding than standard Ludwigia varieties and is best suited to established planted aquariums.

It is generally considered intermediate difficulty. It can grow without injected CO₂, but stronger lighting, CO₂ and consistent fertilisation will produce better growth.
Provide good lighting, consistent CO₂ and balanced nutrients. Strong conditions can encourage more pronounced pink, red and cream tones.
It works well in the midground or background, where its unusual foliage can provide a strong colour contrast.
Cut healthy stems and replant the upper portions directly into the substrate. The remaining stems can produce new side shoots.
CO₂ is not strictly essential, but it is strongly beneficial for maintaining healthy growth and stronger colouration.
Using insufficient lighting
Low light can result in weaker, greener and more stretched growth.
Skipping CO₂ in a high-light aquarium
Strong lighting without sufficient carbon can make maintaining healthy growth more difficult.
Never trimming the plant
Regular trimming encourages branching and creates a denser bush.
Allowing surrounding plants to shade it
Good light penetration is important for maintaining its distinctive colouration.
Neglecting nutrients
Consistent macro and micronutrients support healthy new growth and foliage colour.
