Ludwigia inclinata 'Green' is an attractive freshwater stem plant prized for its bright green, narrow foliage and distinctive whorled growth pattern. Its fine texture and upright growth make it an excellent choice for adding contrast and movement to a planted aquarium.
Unlike many colourful Ludwigia varieties, this form is valued primarily for its fresh green colouration. It can produce dense, bushy growth when regularly trimmed and is particularly impressive when planted in groups.
This Ludwigia is best suited to established planted aquariums with strong lighting, CO₂ supplementation and consistent fertilisation. Under high-tech conditions, growth can be rapid and healthy.
Scientific Name: Ludwigia inclinata 'Green'
Common Name: Ludwigia inclinata Green
Family: Onagraceae
Type: Freshwater Aquarium Plant / Stem Plant
Growth Rate: Fast
Difficulty: Intermediate to Advanced
Placement: Midground to Background
Lighting: Moderate to High
CO₂: Strongly Recommended
pH: Approximately 5.5–7.5
Temperature: Approximately 20–28°C
Water Hardness: Soft to Moderately Hard
Propagation: Stem Cuttings
Growth Form: Upright, Whorled Stem
It is considered intermediate to advanced. It is more demanding than common Ludwigia species and performs best with strong lighting, CO₂ and stable water conditions.
CO₂ is strongly recommended. Consistent carbon availability encourages healthy, compact growth and helps the plant establish successfully.
It works well in the midground or background, particularly when planted in groups to create a dense stand of fine green foliage.
Cut healthy stems and replant the upper portions into the substrate. The remaining stems can develop new side shoots.
Under strong lighting, CO₂ and good nutrition it can be a fast-growing stem plant, so regular trimming is recommended.
Trying to grow it in a low-tech aquarium
It may struggle without adequate light and carbon availability.
Skipping CO₂
Consistent CO₂ is important for maintaining vigorous growth.
Insufficient lighting
Low light can lead to weaker, more open growth.
Planting stems too closely together
Give each stem room for light and water circulation to reach the lower foliage.
Not trimming regularly
Regular trimming encourages branching and creates a fuller, more attractive group.
Neglecting nutrients
Fast-growing Ludwigia requires a consistent supply of macro and micronutrients.
