Ludwigia White is an unusual and highly sought-after freshwater stem plant known for its pale cream, white and light-green foliage. Its unusual colouration provides excellent contrast against traditional green and red aquarium plants, making it a striking choice for aquascaping.
It is best suited to midground or background planting and can be grown as a dense group with regular trimming. Good lighting, stable water parameters and consistent nutrients are important for maintaining healthy growth.
Ludwigia White can be more demanding than standard Ludwigia varieties. CO₂ supplementation is strongly recommended, particularly in high-light aquariums, to support healthy growth and prevent the plant from deteriorating.

It is generally considered intermediate to advanced compared with more common Ludwigia varieties. Stable conditions, good lighting, nutrients and CO₂ will produce the best results.
CO₂ is strongly recommended, particularly when using strong lighting. It helps support healthy new growth and maintain the plant's unusual pale colouration.
It works well in the midground or background, where its pale foliage can create strong contrast with darker green and red plants.
Simply cut healthy stems and replant the upper portions into the substrate. The remaining stem can produce new side shoots.
Strong lighting, good CO₂ availability and balanced nutrients can help maintain the plant's characteristic pale appearance. Avoid relying on nutrient starvation to force colour changes, as this can weaken the plant.
Using insufficient lighting
Low light can cause weaker, greener and more stretched growth.
Skipping CO₂
This variety can be more demanding than standard Ludwigia and benefits greatly from consistent CO₂.
Allowing the plant to become shaded
Dense surrounding plants can reduce the light reaching the Ludwigia and cause deterioration.
Never trimming the stems
Regular trimming encourages branching and creates a fuller display.
Neglecting nutrients
Consistent macro and micronutrients are important for maintaining healthy new growth.
