Assorted Crypts are a mixed selection of Cryptocoryne aquarium plants, offering a variety of leaf shapes, sizes, textures, and colours. Depending on the available stock, varieties may range from compact green Crypts to bronze, brown, red, and highly textured forms.

Cryptocoryne are some of the most popular plants for natural-style aquariums because of their slow to moderate growth, attractive rosette form, and ability to thrive in lower-tech setups.

They are primarily root-feeding plants and benefit greatly from a nutrient-rich substrate or root fertilisation. Once established, Crypts can remain in the same location for years and gradually develop into impressive, natural-looking groups.

Cryptocoryne are also well known for Crypt Melt. When moved into a new aquarium or exposed to significant changes in water parameters, established leaves can deteriorate rapidly. This can look alarming, but the root system can remain healthy and produce new submerged leaves once the plant adapts.

Common Mistakes

Panicking when Crypts melt
Don't immediately remove a melting Crypt. If the roots are healthy, allow it time to recover and produce new leaves.

Constantly moving established Crypts
They prefer stability. Choose their location carefully and allow them time to establish.

Burying the crown too deeply
Plant the roots into the substrate while keeping the crown where the leaves emerge above the substrate.

Poor substrate nutrition
Cryptocoryne are strong root feeders and benefit from nutrient-rich substrate or root tabs.

Overcrowding the plants
Allow enough space for each Crypt to develop its mature leaf size and spread naturally.
