About Dumbo Dragon Guppy
The Dumbo Dragon Guppy is a striking designer guppy variety known for its large flowing pectoral fins, vibrant dragon-style colouration and impressive ornamental tail. Males are typically much more colourful than females and can display intense red, orange, yellow, blue or metallic tones.
The distinctive Dumbo or Elephant Ear pectoral fins are the defining feature of this variety, giving the fish a unique appearance and making it a popular choice for planted and community aquariums.
Dumbo Dragon Guppies are peaceful, active and relatively easy to care for. They thrive in stable, clean water with plenty of plants and open swimming areas.
Like all guppies, they are livebearers and can reproduce readily. Females can give birth to large numbers of fry, so a planted aquarium provides useful hiding places for young fish.

Frequently Asked Questions
Are Dumbo Dragon Guppies peaceful?
Yes. They are peaceful community fish and can be kept with other similarly sized, non-aggressive species.
How big do Dumbo Dragon Guppies get?
Males generally reach around 3–4 cm, while females can grow to approximately 5–6 cm.
Can Dumbo Dragon Guppies breed?
Yes. They are livebearers and reproduce readily in aquariums. Females give birth to free-swimming fry rather than laying eggs.
What do Dumbo Dragon Guppies eat?
They are omnivores and readily accept quality flakes and micro pellets, along with Spirulina, daphnia, baby brine shrimp and other small frozen or live foods.
Can male and female Dumbo Dragon Guppies be kept together?
Yes, although breeding can happen very quickly. If you don't want large numbers of fry, keeping males separately or maintaining an all-male group can be considered.
Common Mistakes
Keeping too many males and females together
Guppies reproduce rapidly. A ratio of around one male to several females helps reduce constant attention on individual females.
Keeping them with fin-nipping fish
Their large flowing fins can make them vulnerable to fin-nipping tank mates.
Using very soft or acidic water
Guppies generally prefer stable, mineral-rich water with a neutral to slightly alkaline pH.
Overfeeding
Small portions fed regularly are preferable to excessive feeding.
Allowing water quality to deteriorate
Their elaborate fins can be particularly susceptible to damage when water quality is poor.
