About the Sunburst Anthias

The Sunburst Anthias (Serranocirrhitus latus) is a stunning deep-water reef fish known for its bright orange-gold body, purple markings and beautiful flowing fins. Also commonly called the Fathead Sunburst Anthias, it is a highly sought-after species for mature marine aquariums.

Unlike many smaller, highly active anthias, the Sunburst Anthias tends to be more secretive and deliberate, spending much of its time around caves, overhangs and shaded areas of the reef. Once settled, however, it can become a confident and spectacular addition to the aquarium.

They are generally peaceful and can be kept with other suitable reef fish. They appreciate plenty of live rock and caves where they can retreat when stressed.

Sunburst Anthias are carnivorous planktivores and should be offered small, nutritious foods several times throughout the day. A varied diet of frozen mysis, brine shrimp and quality marine pellets will help maintain their condition and vibrant colour.

They are considered reef safe and generally leave corals and sessile invertebrates alone.
