About the Assorted Freshwater Shrimp

Assorted Freshwater Shrimp offer a colourful mix of hardy Neocaridina davidi varieties, making them an excellent choice for planted aquariums, aquascapes, and peaceful community tanks. Depending on availability, your selection may include vibrant colours such as Red Cherry, Blue Dream, Yellow Cherry, Orange Sunkist, Snowball, Black Rose, Green Jade, Chocolate, Blue Jelly, Carbon Rili, Red Rili, Orange Rili, and other premium colour morphs.

These active freshwater shrimp spend their day grazing on algae, biofilm, and organic matter found on plants, driftwood, rocks, and aquarium glass. They are both attractive and highly beneficial, helping to naturally maintain a clean and healthy aquarium while adding constant movement and colour.

Assorted Freshwater Shrimp thrive in mature planted aquariums with mosses, fine-leaved plants, driftwood, botanicals, and plenty of hiding places. Stable water conditions and an established aquarium rich in natural biofilm are essential for successful moulting and breeding. They are excellent companions for peaceful nano fish including Ember Tetras, Chili Rasboras, Celestial Pearl Danios, Pygmy Corydoras, Otocinclus, Medaka, and Blue-eye Rainbowfish.

A varied diet of premium shrimp pellets, algae wafers, spirulina, Indian Almond Leaves, blanched vegetables, and occasional protein-rich foods such as baby brine shrimp will support healthy moulting, vibrant colours, and successful breeding.

Hardy, colourful, and incredibly easy to care for, Assorted Freshwater Shrimp are a fantastic choice for both beginner and experienced shrimp keepers.

Please Note: Assorted shrimp are selected based on current availability. Colours, grades, sizes, and patterns will vary, and your order may contain one or multiple colour varieties.

Frequently Asked Questions

Colours vary depending on availability and may include Red Cherry, Blue Dream, Yellow Cherry, Orange Sunkist, Snowball, Black Rose, Green Jade, Chocolate, Blue Jelly, Carbon Rili, Red Rili, Orange Rili, and other Neocaridina varieties.

Are Assorted Freshwater Shrimp good for beginners?

Yes. Neocaridina shrimp are among the easiest freshwater shrimp to care for and are ideal for beginners.

What do Assorted Freshwater Shrimp eat?

They feed on biofilm, algae, premium shrimp pellets, algae wafers, spirulina, blanched vegetables, Indian Almond Leaves, and occasional protein-rich foods.

Can Assorted Freshwater Shrimp live with fish?

Yes. They do well with peaceful nano fish such as Ember Tetras, Rasboras, Pygmy Corydoras, Otocinclus, Medaka, and Blue-eyes. Avoid large or predatory fish.

Will Assorted Freshwater Shrimp breed true?

If different Neocaridina colour varieties are kept together, they will interbreed. Over successive generations, this often results in wild-type brown offspring. To maintain pure colour lines, keep each variety in a separate aquarium.

Common Mistakes

Mixing colour varieties

Different Neocaridina colours readily interbreed, which can reduce colour quality over future generations.

Adding them to immature aquariums

Always introduce shrimp to a mature, fully cycled aquarium with abundant natural biofilm.

Sudden water parameter changes

Rapid fluctuations in temperature, pH, or hardness can cause stress and moulting problems. Slow acclimation is essential.

Keeping them with predatory fish

Many fish will prey on shrimp or shrimplets. Choose peaceful tank mates and provide plenty of hiding places.

Overfeeding

Feed sparingly and allow shrimp to graze naturally. Excess food can quickly reduce water quality.

Care & biosecurity

This animal has been hand-selected, acclimated and inspected before sale. We still recommend acclimating slowly at home - inverts are sensitive to sudden parameter swings. Our team is happy to talk you through the right setup - just ask.
