Description

About the Blueberry Tetra

The Blueberry Tetra is a vibrant freshwater community fish admired for its brilliant electric blue colouration and active schooling behaviour. Commonly sold under the trade name Blueberry Tetra, these fish provide a striking splash of colour in planted aquariums and community displays. Their shimmering blue body stands out beautifully against lush green plants, driftwood, and dark substrates.

Blueberry Tetras are peaceful, social fish that thrive when kept in schools. They spend much of their time swimming through the middle of the aquarium and display the most confident behaviour and brightest colours when housed in groups of at least eight individuals.

A well-planted aquarium with open swimming areas, stable water conditions, and gentle water movement provides the ideal environment. They mix well with Corydoras, Rasboras, Danios, Rainbowfish, peaceful Gouramis, Loaches, and other non-aggressive community species.

A varied diet of premium tropical flakes, micro pellets, frozen bloodworms, baby brine shrimp, daphnia, cyclops, and other quality live or frozen foods will help maintain excellent health and vibrant colouration.

Colourful, active, and easy to care for, the Blueberry Tetra is a fantastic addition to freshwater community aquariums.

Please Note: The trade name "Blueberry Tetra" is often used for colour-enhanced or selectively marketed fish. Colour intensity may naturally fade over time depending on the individual fish, genetics, diet, and how the fish was produced. If purchasing for its colour, it is worth confirming the origin and colouring method with the supplier.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are Blueberry Tetras peaceful?

Yes. They are peaceful schooling fish that do well with most community aquarium species.

How many Blueberry Tetras should I keep?

They should be kept in schools of at least 8, although groups of 10 or more create a much more natural and attractive display.

What do Blueberry Tetras eat?

They readily accept quality tropical flakes, micro pellets, frozen bloodworms, baby brine shrimp, daphnia, cyclops, and other small live or frozen foods.

Can Blueberry Tetras live with shrimp?

Yes. Adult Cherry Shrimp and Amano Shrimp are generally safe, although very small shrimplets may occasionally be eaten.

Why has my Blueberry Tetra lost its bright blue colour?

If the fish is a colour-enhanced variety, the bright blue colour may gradually fade over time. Good water quality, a nutritious diet, and low stress will help maintain the best possible appearance.

Common Mistakes

Keeping them in small groups

Blueberry Tetras are schooling fish and become shy or stressed when kept in low numbers.

Poor water quality

Stable water conditions and regular water changes are essential for long-term health.

Housing them with aggressive fish

Choose peaceful community species that won't harass or outcompete these active schooling fish.

Feeding only one type of food

A varied diet promotes better health, stronger immune systems, and improved colouration.

Purchasing without understanding the variety

Some Blueberry Tetras are marketed using a trade name rather than a recognised natural species, and colour intensity may vary or fade depending on the fish's origin.
