About Copperband Butterflyfish

The Copperband Butterflyfish is one of the most recognisable marine butterflyfish, featuring a long pointed snout, copper-orange vertical bands, white body and a distinctive eyespot near the rear of the dorsal fin.

This species is highly prized by reef aquarists and is particularly well known for its natural appetite for Aiptasia anemones, making it a popular choice for controlling unwanted pests in established marine aquariums.

Copperbands can be more challenging to acclimate than many other marine fish. They are often sensitive to transport and may initially refuse prepared foods, so providing a mature aquarium with established live rock and plenty of natural food sources is highly recommended.

They are generally peaceful but should not be considered completely reef safe. Individual fish may nip at feather dusters, tube worms, clams or certain corals.
