About WYLD Pacific Wood

WYLD Pacific Wood is a naturally smoothed aquarium driftwood featuring elongated, branching forms shaped by water and time. Its flowing structure makes it an excellent choice for creating height, movement and negative space in planted aquariums and aquascapes.

The distinctive branching shape works particularly well as a centrepiece or as part of a larger hardscape. It can be positioned to create the appearance of natural roots, fallen branches or submerged coastal vegetation.

Pacific Wood is especially suited to planted aquariums where epiphyte plants such as Anubias, Bucephalandra, Java Fern and mosses can be attached directly to the wood.

Every piece is naturally unique, with variations in branch structure, thickness, colour and overall shape. This makes each piece different and allows aquascapers to select wood that suits their individual layout.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will Pacific Wood float?

Some pieces may initially float because they contain trapped air. Securing the wood with an aquarium-safe rock or weight allows it to gradually become waterlogged.

Will it release tannins?

Yes. Natural wood can release tannins when first submerged, potentially giving aquarium water a light brown or tea-coloured appearance.

Can I attach plants to Pacific Wood?

Yes. Its branching structure is ideal for attaching mosses, Anubias, Bucephalandra and Java Fern.

Is Pacific Wood suitable for shrimp tanks?

Yes. Once properly rinsed and prepared, it provides additional surfaces for biofilm and natural grazing.

Does every piece look the same?

No. Pacific Wood is natural driftwood, so every piece will have its own branch structure, shape and texture.

How do I prepare Pacific Wood?

Rinse the wood thoroughly with freshwater before use. If it floats, secure it underwater until it becomes fully waterlogged.

Common Mistakes

  • Not securing floating wood: Some pieces need time to become waterlogged.
  • Expecting identical pieces: Natural wood varies considerably.
  • Skipping the initial rinse: Remove loose debris before placing it in the aquarium.
  • Worrying about tannins: Initial tannin release is normal for natural wood.
  • Choosing wood without considering orientation: Plan how the branches will sit before adding substrate and plants.
  • Overcrowding the hardscape: Allow sufficient open space around the branches to highlight the wood's natural shape.
