Hygrophila Rosanervig is a colourful and fast-growing stem plant known for its distinctive green leaves highlighted by bright pink to red veins. Also commonly sold as Sunset Hygrophila, this attractive variety adds excellent colour and texture to planted aquariums without requiring the demanding conditions of many red aquarium plants.
Under stronger lighting, the characteristic pink veining becomes much more pronounced, while the new growth can develop attractive pink, bronze, and reddish tones. Its relatively compact leaves and branching growth make it particularly useful for creating dense background or midground groups.
Hygrophila Rosanervig is highly adaptable and can grow successfully in both low-tech and high-tech aquariums. CO₂ is not essential, although supplementation will encourage faster growth, stronger colouration, and denser foliage.
Regular trimming encourages branching and allows you to maintain a compact, bushy appearance. The plant can also be easily propagated by replanting healthy stem cuttings.
Fast-growing, colourful, and forgiving, Hygrophila Rosanervig is an excellent choice for aquascapers wanting an easy-care plant with a splash of pink colour.

Good lighting and balanced nutrients are the most important factors. Stronger lighting generally encourages the characteristic pink or reddish veining to become more noticeable.
Simply cut healthy stems and replant the tops into the substrate. Roots will develop from the lower stem nodes and the new cutting will continue growing.
Yes. It is a hardy and adaptable stem plant that tolerates a wide range of aquarium conditions.
It is a fast-growing plant and may require regular trimming to prevent it from becoming overgrown or shading other plants.
Insufficient lighting
Low light can reduce the pink veining and cause the stems to become elongated.
Not trimming regularly
Hygrophila Rosanervig grows quickly. Regular pruning encourages branching and keeps the plant compact.
Planting stems too closely
Allow space between stems for good water circulation and light penetration.
Poor nutrient availability
Fast-growing plants require a consistent supply of nutrients. Regular fertilisation helps maintain healthy new growth.
Allowing it to shade other plants
Because it grows rapidly, untrimmed Rosanervig can quickly block light from reaching slower-growing plants underneath.
