About Julii Corydora

The Julii Corydora is a small, peaceful bottom-dwelling catfish recognised for its light body, dark spotting and attractive reticulated markings. It is a popular choice for community aquariums and is particularly well suited to planted tanks.

Julii Corydoras are active, social fish that spend much of their time exploring the substrate in search of food. They use their sensitive barbels to locate food among the substrate and hardscape, making a smooth, fine substrate ideal for protecting their delicate barbels.

They are best kept in groups, where they display much more natural and confident behaviour. A group of six or more is recommended, with larger groups often being even more impressive.

Julii Corydoras are peaceful and can be housed with a wide range of similarly peaceful tropical community fish. They appreciate planted aquariums with shaded areas, driftwood, leaf litter and plenty of open substrate for foraging.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many Julii Corydoras should I keep?

Keep them in a group of at least 6. Larger groups are even better and encourage more natural schooling and foraging behaviour.

What substrate is best for Julii Corydoras?

Fine sand or smooth, rounded substrate is ideal. Avoid sharp or abrasive gravel that can damage their sensitive barbels.

Are Julii Corydoras peaceful?

Yes. They are extremely peaceful and make excellent community aquarium inhabitants.

What do Julii Corydoras eat?

Feed sinking catfish pellets or wafers along with frozen and live foods such as bloodworms, brine shrimp and daphnia. A varied diet helps maintain good condition.

Can Julii Corydoras live with shrimp?

Yes. They are generally peaceful and can be kept with adult freshwater shrimp. Very small shrimplets may occasionally be eaten if encountered.

Common Mistakes

Keeping only one or two
Corydoras are social fish and should be kept in groups.

Using sharp gravel
Sharp substrate can damage their barbels and underside. Fine sand or smooth substrate is much safer.

Assuming they survive on leftover food
Corydoras still need targeted feeding with sinking foods to ensure they receive enough nutrition.

Keeping the aquarium too clean
A natural aquarium with plants, wood and areas where biofilm develops provides a more enriching environment.

Poor water quality
Corydoras are sensitive to accumulated waste and sudden changes in water parameters. Maintain good filtration and regular water changes.
