Description

About the Platinum Koi Guppy

The Platinum Koi Guppy is a premium fancy guppy variety admired for its stunning combination of metallic platinum white, vibrant orange-red markings, and flowing finnage. Inspired by the famous Kohaku Koi, this selectively bred livebearer features a pearlescent silver-white body with vivid red or orange highlights across the head, body, and tail, making each fish a unique living work of art.

The brilliant platinum sheen reflects light beautifully, while the contrasting koi-style pattern creates an eye-catching centrepiece in planted aquariums and freshwater community tanks. Males display the brightest colours and largest flowing fins, while females are larger with more subdued colouration.

Platinum Koi Guppies thrive in well-planted aquariums with stable water conditions, gentle water movement, and plenty of open swimming space. Their peaceful temperament makes them ideal companions for Endlers, Corydoras, Platies, Mollies, Rasboras, peaceful Tetras, Otocinclus, and freshwater shrimp. Like all Guppies, they are prolific livebearers and breed readily in home aquariums.

A varied diet of premium tropical flakes, micro pellets, spirulina-based foods, baby brine shrimp, daphnia, bloodworms, and other quality live or frozen foods will maximise their brilliant platinum sheen, vibrant colours, and healthy finnage.

Elegant, hardy, and exceptionally colourful, the Platinum Koi Guppy is a perfect choice for both beginner and experienced aquarists looking to add a premium fancy guppy to their collection.

Common Mistakes

Keeping them with fin-nipping fish

Avoid Tiger Barbs and other fin-nipping species, as they may damage the Platinum Koi Guppy's flowing fins.

Poor water quality

Stable water parameters, regular water changes, and efficient filtration are essential for maintaining vibrant colours and healthy finnage.

Feeding only one type of food

A varied diet enhances colour, strengthens the immune system, and promotes healthy fin growth.

Keeping too many males together

Male Guppies constantly display to one another. If keeping mixed sexes, a ratio of one male to two or three females helps reduce stress.

Underestimating breeding rates

Platinum Koi Guppies reproduce readily, so have a plan for managing fry if housing males and females together.
