About the Wild Elegans Corydoras

The Wild Elegans Corydoras is a beautiful and distinctive South American catfish, prized for its intricate reticulated pattern, elegant body shape, and peaceful nature. Unlike many Corydoras species, Corydoras elegans has a more streamlined appearance and is known to spend time swimming in the mid-water column as well as foraging across the substrate, making it one of the more active members of the Corydoras family.

Wild-caught specimens display rich olive-green, bronze, and cream colouration overlaid with fine black marbling and intricate markings. Native to the Amazon River Basin throughout Brazil, Peru, and Colombia, they inhabit slow-moving tributaries with sandy bottoms, leaf litter, and submerged wood.

Wild Elegans Corydoras thrive in mature aquariums with fine sand, driftwood, dense planting, and gentle water movement. They should always be kept in groups of at least six, where they display natural schooling behaviour and become much more confident. Their peaceful temperament makes them excellent companions for Cardinal Tetras, Rummy Nose Tetras, Pencilfish, Hatchetfish, Apistogramma, Rams, and other peaceful South American community fish.

A varied diet of quality sinking pellets, Corydoras wafers, frozen bloodworms, blackworms, baby brine shrimp, daphnia, and other live or frozen foods will keep them healthy while maintaining their natural colouration.
