The Clarkii Clownfish is a hardy and highly adaptable marine fish recognised for its black to dark brown body, bright yellow fins and contrasting white bands. It is one of the larger commonly kept clownfish species and is well suited to a wide range of marine aquariums.
Clarkii Clownfish are active, confident fish with plenty of personality. They can form strong pair bonds and establish a territory around a preferred host or area of the aquarium.
They naturally associate with several species of anemones, although an anemone is not required in captivity. They may also host in corals, rockwork or other structures.
Compared with Ocellaris and Percula Clownfish, Clarkii Clownfish can be considerably more territorial, particularly when mature or kept as a breeding pair. They are best housed with appropriately sized tank mates.

Clarkii Clownfish can reach approximately 15 cm, making them considerably larger than Ocellaris Clownfish.
No. An anemone is not essential for their health. They may choose rockwork, coral or another suitable structure as a host.
They can be territorial and semi-aggressive, particularly once established as a pair. Their larger size and confident personality should be considered when selecting tank mates.
They readily accept quality marine pellets and flakes along with frozen foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp and finely chopped marine seafood.
Underestimating their size
Clarkii Clownfish become considerably larger than Ocellaris and Percula Clownfish.
Keeping them in a small aquarium
Their size and territorial behaviour make a larger aquarium preferable.
Assuming an anemone is required
They can thrive without an anemone and may choose another host.
Keeping them with very timid fish
Established Clarkii pairs can become territorial and may harass passive tank mates.
Not providing suitable territory
Rockwork and sheltered areas allow them to establish a territory and feel secure.
