The Gold Nugget Maroon Clownfish is a spectacular designer variety of the Maroon Clownfish, recognised for its deep maroon-red body combined with irregular golden-yellow or white markings. Each individual can have a unique pattern, making these clownfish highly sought after by marine aquarists.
Like other Maroon Clownfish, Gold Nuggets are hardy and have plenty of personality. However, they can become highly territorial and aggressive, particularly as they mature or when kept as a breeding pair.
They are best provided with plenty of rockwork, caves and a clearly defined territory. An anemone can provide a natural host, although it is not essential for their health.
Gold Nugget Maroon Clownfish are omnivorous and readily accept quality marine pellets, flakes, mysis shrimp, brine shrimp and other meaty frozen foods.
Because of their temperament, they are best housed with appropriately sized tank mates that can handle their territorial behaviour.

Underestimating their aggression
Maroon Clownfish can become extremely territorial, particularly once mature.
Adding them to a peaceful community aquarium
Their behaviour can be problematic with timid or passive tank mates.
Trying to pair two similarly sized fish immediately
Maroon Clownfish pairing can involve significant aggression. Introducing an appropriately smaller fish and providing plenty of space is important.
Not providing enough territory
Rockwork, caves and an appropriate host area help establish a defined territory.
Expecting every Gold Nugget to have the same pattern
Designer clownfish patterns vary considerably between individual specimens.
