About Kali Tusa Rainbows

Kali Tusa Rainbows are a beautiful and relatively uncommon Australian rainbowfish prized for their shimmering colours and active schooling behaviour. Mature males can develop vibrant blue, green, yellow and reddish tones, particularly when displaying to females.

These peaceful fish are best kept in a group, where they feel secure and display their most natural behaviour. They are active swimmers and appreciate an aquarium with plenty of open swimming space alongside areas of dense planting.

Kali Tusa Rainbows are well suited to peaceful community aquariums and are an excellent choice for aquarists looking to keep something a little different from the more common rainbowfish varieties.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are Kali Tusa Rainbows peaceful?

Yes. They are generally peaceful community fish and can be kept with other similarly sized, non-aggressive species.

How many Kali Tusa Rainbows should I keep?

A group of 6 or more is recommended. Keeping a proper group encourages natural schooling behaviour and helps males display their best colours.

What do Kali Tusa Rainbows eat?

They are omnivores and readily accept quality flakes, pellets, frozen foods and live foods. A varied diet can help maximise colour and condition.

Are Kali Tusa Rainbows suitable for planted aquariums?

Yes. They look excellent in planted aquariums, particularly where dense vegetation is combined with an open area for swimming.

How can I bring out their colours?

Good water quality, a varied diet, appropriate lighting and keeping them in a suitable group all contribute to strong colouration. Mature males will generally show the most intense colours when displaying.

Common Mistakes

Keeping them in very small groups
Rainbowfish are social schooling fish and generally do much better when kept in groups.

Using an undersized aquarium
They are active swimmers and require adequate horizontal swimming space.

Overcrowding the aquarium
Allow sufficient open water for the group to move naturally.

Feeding only one type of food
A varied diet provides better overall nutrition and can support stronger colouration.

Keeping them with aggressive tank mates
Aggressive species can stress these otherwise peaceful rainbowfish.
