About the Pakistani Loach

The Pakistani Loach (Botia almorhae), more commonly known as the Yo-Yo Loach, is an active and entertaining freshwater fish loved for its striking chain-like black markings that often resemble the letters "YOYO" across its silver body. Full of personality, these social loaches are constantly exploring the aquarium, interacting with one another and foraging through the substrate.

Pakistani Loaches are an excellent choice for larger community aquariums and are particularly valued for helping control pest snail populations. They thrive when kept in groups of at least five, where their natural social behaviours can be observed. A well-decorated aquarium with driftwood, rocks, caves and plenty of hiding places allows them to feel secure while encouraging their playful nature.

These omnivores readily accept sinking pellets, frozen foods, live foods and vegetable-based foods, making them easy to feed. Soft sand or smooth gravel is recommended to protect their sensitive barbels while they search for food.
