About the Cherry Tetra

The Cherry Muzel Tetra is a striking and relatively uncommon freshwater tetra prized for its rich cherry-red colouration and peaceful schooling behaviour. Originating from Brazil, this attractive species has quickly become a favourite among aquascapers due to its intense colours, active swimming habits, and compatibility with planted community aquariums. Most specimens available in the aquarium trade today are captive bred.

Cherry Muzel Tetras display their best colours when kept in large schools amongst lush aquatic plants, dark substrates, and natural driftwood. Like most tetras, they are highly social and should be maintained in groups of at least six, although schools of ten or more create an impressive display and encourage natural behaviour.

Their peaceful temperament makes them ideal companions for Corydoras, rasboras, small rainbowfish, peaceful dwarf cichlids, gouramis, and other non-aggressive community fish. A varied diet of quality flakes, micro pellets, frozen foods, and occasional live foods will help maintain their vibrant red colouration and excellent health.
