About the Diamond Head Rummynose Tetra

The Diamond Head Rummynose Tetra is a striking premium colour form of the popular Rummynose Tetra, prized for its brilliant silver body, intense red head and sparkling diamond-like reflective scales. Their bright red noses and shimmering bodies make them particularly impressive when kept in a large school.

These peaceful South American schooling fish are an excellent choice for planted community aquariums. Their schooling behaviour becomes more impressive as group size increases, with a larger group creating a constantly moving display through the middle levels of the aquarium.

Diamond Head Rummynose Tetras are active but peaceful and should be kept with similarly sized community fish. They appreciate clean, stable water, gentle flow and plenty of vegetation or other cover around the aquarium.

A varied diet of quality small pellets, flakes and appropriately sized frozen or live foods will help maintain their colour and condition.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many Diamond Head Rummynose Tetras should I keep?

A group of 8 or more is recommended. Larger schools generally display more natural behaviour and provide a much more impressive visual effect.

Are Diamond Head Rummynose Tetras peaceful?

Yes. They are peaceful community fish and are suitable for aquariums with other similarly sized, non-aggressive species.

What do they eat?

They readily accept quality micro pellets, flakes and granules, supplemented with small frozen or live foods such as daphnia and baby brine shrimp.

Are they suitable for planted tanks?

Absolutely. Their silver bodies and red heads look fantastic against a lush green planted background, making them a popular choice for aquascaped aquariums.

How big do they get?

They typically reach around 4–5 cm in length.

Why are my Rummynose Tetras losing their red colour?

Pale colouration can be caused by stress, poor water quality, illness or an unsuitable environment. Once settled in clean, stable water, healthy fish generally regain their characteristic red colouring.

Common Mistakes

  • ❌ Keeping them in a group that is too small
  • ❌ Adding them to an immature or unstable aquarium
  • ❌ Keeping them with aggressive or oversized fish
  • ❌ Feeding food that is too large
  • ❌ Allowing water quality to deteriorate
  • ❌ Expecting strong colouration from stressed fish
