The Fromage Medaka is a premium Japanese Rice Fish variety, prized for its soft creamy white to ivory colouration and elegant metallic sheen. The name "Fromage", meaning "cheese" in French, perfectly reflects this variety's unique creamy appearance. Highly sought after by Medaka collectors, the Fromage Medaka adds subtle beauty and sophistication to both aquariums and outdoor ponds.
Developed through selective breeding in Japan, this peaceful fish displays a smooth pearlescent body that becomes even more luminous under natural sunlight or high-quality aquarium lighting. Their gentle colouring contrasts beautifully against dark substrates and lush green aquatic plants, making them a favourite for aquascapes and display ponds.
Fromage Medaka are active schooling fish that enjoy swimming near the surface and thrive in groups of six or more. They are exceptionally hardy and tolerate a wide range of temperatures, making them suitable for both heated aquariums and outdoor ponds in much of Australia. They coexist peacefully with shrimp, snails, and other small community fish.
A varied diet of premium micro pellets, crushed flakes, baby brine shrimp, daphnia, and other live or frozen foods will help maintain their pearly colouration while encouraging healthy growth and breeding.
Graceful, hardy, and unique, the Fromage Medaka is an excellent choice for aquarists and collectors seeking an elegant Japanese Rice Fish.
