Otocinclus Catfish are small, peaceful freshwater algae grazers that are highly valued in planted aquariums. Often called “Otos,” they have a slender body, sucker-shaped mouth and attractive dark stripe running along the sides.

These gentle bottom-dwelling fish spend much of their time grazing on soft algae and biofilm found on aquarium glass, plant leaves, driftwood and décor. They are particularly useful in mature planted aquariums where natural food sources are available.

Otocinclus are social fish and should be kept in groups. They are best introduced to established aquariums with stable water parameters, plenty of hiding places and a reliable supply of suitable food.

Although peaceful, Otocinclus can be sensitive to poor water quality and sudden changes. Supplement their natural grazing with algae wafers and blanched vegetables when required.
