About Eibli Angel

The Eibli Angel is a striking dwarf angelfish recognised for its orange-red body, vertical dark bars and blue highlights around the fins and face. Its compact size and bold colouration make it a popular choice for marine and reef aquariums.

Eibli Angels are active and curious fish that spend much of their time exploring live rock and grazing on algae and other natural growth. Providing plenty of established rockwork gives them opportunities to forage and shelter.

Like many dwarf angelfish, they can become territorial, particularly towards other dwarf angels or similarly shaped fish. They are best introduced carefully and provided with plenty of rockwork and hiding places.

Although often kept successfully in reef aquariums, Eibli Angels should be considered reef safe with caution. Individual fish may nip at corals, particularly fleshy LPS corals, soft corals and clam mantles.

A varied diet containing marine algae, Spirulina, quality angelfish foods and meaty frozen foods helps maintain their health and colour.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are Eibli Angels reef safe?

They are reef safe with caution. Some individuals leave corals completely alone, while others may nip at LPS, soft corals, clams or other sessile invertebrates.

How big does an Eibli Angel get?

They can reach approximately 12–15 cm, making them one of the larger dwarf angelfish.

What do Eibli Angels eat?

They benefit from a varied diet containing marine algae, nori, Spirulina-based foods, quality angelfish pellets and frozen foods such as mysis shrimp.

Can Eibli Angels be kept with other dwarf angels?

They can be territorial towards other dwarf angelfish. Keeping multiple Centropyge species requires careful planning, adequate aquarium size and plenty of rockwork.

Do Eibli Angels need live rock?

Yes. Mature live rock provides grazing opportunities, shelter and territories and is highly beneficial for this species.

Common Mistakes

Assuming every Eibli Angel is reef safe
Individual fish can develop a taste for corals, so monitor their behaviour carefully.

Not providing enough algae-based food
Regular access to marine algae is important for their diet and natural grazing behaviour.

Keeping multiple dwarf angels without sufficient space
Territorial disputes can become significant.

Adding one to an immature aquarium
Established rockwork provides natural grazing and shelter.

Keeping them with extremely timid fish
Their territorial nature can cause stress to passive tank mates.
