The Pantanalensis Corydora is an attractive South American freshwater catfish associated with the Pantanal region of Brazil and neighbouring areas. It has an armoured body, short barbels around its mouth and a distinctive pattern of dark spots and markings across its flanks. Its appearance makes it an appealing choice for aquarists who enjoy keeping less-common Corydoras species.
Like other Corydoras, this species spends much of its time exploring the bottom of the aquarium, searching for small food particles among the substrate. It is generally peaceful and does best in a group of its own kind, where it can display more natural social behaviour.
A soft sand substrate is ideal because it allows the fish to forage without damaging its sensitive barbels. Provide shaded areas, driftwood, plants and hiding places, along with clean, well-oxygenated water.
Pantanalensis Corydoras are omnivores and should receive a varied diet of quality sinking pellets, wafers and suitable frozen or live foods. They should not be expected to survive on leftover food alone.

These parameters are based on specialist species references; the fish is a relatively large Corydoradine catfish and benefits from ample floor space.
It can reach approximately 7–8 cm, with females generally growing slightly larger than males.
Keep at least six of the same species. They are social fish and usually behave more naturally in a group.
Yes. They are generally peaceful and suitable for community aquariums with similarly calm fish.
Offer sinking catfish pellets, quality wafers, frozen bloodworms, daphnia and brine shrimp. Ensure food reaches the bottom rather than being eaten by faster tank mates.
Fine, smooth sand is ideal for protecting their barbels while they forage. Avoid sharp gravel and keep the substrate clean.
They can share an aquarium with other peaceful Corydoras and similar-sized bottom dwellers, provided there is sufficient space and food. A group of their own species is still recommended.
Keeping a single Pantanalensis Corydora.
Housing them in an aquarium with insufficient floor space.
Using sharp substrate that can damage their barbels.
Allowing waste to accumulate on the substrate.
Assuming they can survive on leftover food alone.
Keeping them with aggressive or highly competitive tank mates.
