The Albino Eureka Cichlid, also known as the Albino Eureka Red Peacock, is a selectively bred colour form of Aulonocara jacobfreibergi. This stunning Lake Malawi peacock is prized for its pale albino body, red eyes and vivid orange-red to yellow colouration, with males developing the strongest colours as they mature.
Like other peacock cichlids, it is a sand-sifting species that uses its sensory pores to locate small food items in the substrate. Despite generally being more manageable than many Malawi mbuna, males can become territorial, particularly when breeding.
A sandy substrate, rockwork and plenty of open swimming space make an excellent setup. Keep them with other similarly sized, compatible Lake Malawi cichlids and avoid mixing closely related peacock strains if breeding pure fish is important.
The Albino Eureka is a maternal mouthbrooder, with females carrying eggs and fry in their mouths until the young are developed enough to become independent.
They generally reach around 12–15 cm in aquarium conditions, with males typically becoming larger and more colourful.
They are generally mildly to moderately aggressive. Males can become territorial, particularly when establishing breeding territories.
Feed a quality peacock cichlid pellet or granule as the staple, supplemented with suitable frozen foods. Their natural feeding behaviour makes a sandy substrate particularly useful.
Yes. They can be kept with compatible peacocks and suitably peaceful Malawi haps. Avoid highly aggressive tank mates that will constantly harass them.
Yes. They are maternal mouthbrooders. The female carries the eggs and developing fry in her mouth until they are ready to be released.
A fine sandy substrate is strongly recommended. They naturally sift through substrate while searching for food and a sand bed also suits their natural behaviour.

This fish has been through our dedicated quarantine system and is feeding, settled and health-checked before sale. We still recommend acclimating slowly and quarantining new additions at home. Our team is happy to talk you through the right setup - just ask.
